June 17th, 2011

SEDT – Smooth Edge Deburring Tool

Cogsdill Tool Products, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the latest addition to our Deburring product family.  SEDT – Smooth Edge Deburring Tool – is a universal tool designed primarily for the deburring of holes in both angled and elliptical surfaces while also applicable to holes in flat surfaces.  SEDT is the perfect addition to our “one pass solution to your hole-deburring needs” family of tools which include our Burraway and Burr-Off product lines for deburring both the front and back side of most holes.  While utilizing the same working principal as both Burraway and Burr-Off, SEDT has some unique features and benefits.
• SEDT deburrs holes in flat surfaces, angled surfaces, and elliptical surfaces.
• SEDT product size range covers holes from 5/32 to 1/2 inch in 1/64 inch increments and holes from 4.0 to 12.5mm in 0.5mm increments.
• SEDT utilizes only 5 cutters to cover the entire range, one each for the 5 tool series.
• SEDT cutters are carbide with TiN coating as standard.
• SEDT cutters are crowned and polished on the top surface to insure that the cutter will not mar the inside surface of the hole.
• SEDT cutters are replaceable without the need of special tools.
• SEDT cutting load pressure is adjustable without having to remove the tool from the machine.
• SEDT tools are designed with metric hardware and come with hex wrenches for adjustment and blade replacement.
Refer to our new SEDT – Smooth Edge Deburring Tool – catalog #150 for complete tool series specifications, operating parameters, and blade replacement and tool adjustment information.  View our new catalog online at www.cogsdill.com

Burr-Off Tools

April 7th, 2011

No longer supplied with tension adjustment mechanism

Cogsdill Tool Products, Inc. announces that the tension adjustment mechanism that was previously supplied on Burr-Off tools size CP-10 and larger will no longer be supplied as a standard feature.  After extensive research it was determined that most of our Deburring customers were not utilizing this feature and discarding this screw and nut mechanism used to adjust the tool tension to control the amount of hole edge break.  Also many customers are requesting a customized slot length to accomplish this same task.  This change will go into effect immediately with newly manufactured Burr-Off tools.

For those customers that may still require this feature, the following screw thread sizes for the screw and nut tension adjustment mechanism are supplied for your reference:
 CP-10 thru CP-13  #0-80×1/4
 CP-14 thru CP-23  #2-56×3/8
 CP-24 thru CP-27  #5-40×1/2
 CP-28 thru CP-31  #8-32×5/8
 CP-32 thru CP-35  #10-32×5/8
 CP-36 thru CP-40  ¼-28×3/4
The tension adjustment mechanism will be available for sale.  Please specify “Tension adjustment mechanism for CP-__”.

Shefcut and Bearingizing Combo

February 17th, 2010

Cogsdill tooling combination achieves demanding size requirement more economically than alternative methods

A manufacturer of hydraulic valves had an extremely tight tolerance requirement for cast iron spool-valve bores. They needed to achieve size and roundness within +.00015 in. (.0038mm). They considered honing or purchasing a special bar-lapping machine, but were looking for an effective but less expensive alternative. Cogsdill developed a two-step solution utilizing Shefcut® precision reamers and Bearingizing tools to achieve this very demanding size specification: Shefcut tools feature a single, replaceable, and micro-adjustable cutting blade supported by guide pads for stability and alignment.  This design makes Shefcut capable of producing very accurate bore size with fine finish and superior hole geometry.

Flipcut Stock Program

December 7th, 2009

Now stocked to suit holes and back-spotfaces for industry-standard bolts, nuts, and washers

We are pleased to introduce a new stock program for Flipcut™ Back-Spotfacing and Chamfering Tools. Selected sizes, suitable for holes and back-spotfaces for industry-standard bolts, nuts, and washers, are available in both inch and metric on a delivery basis of “stock to three days.” NOTE: This is NOT a new Flipcut tool design. The stock program offers tools of the current design, in selected sizes, with a faster delivery.

New brochure depicts stock program

The Flipcut Stock Program brochure depicts the selected sizes available in the new stock program. Due to the interchangeability of arbors and cutters, an additional range of sizes is also available from stock as noted on page four. The Stock Program brochure is intended as a supplement to our full Flipcut catalog (current edition no. 043 U.S. 2-07 attached), which presents the entire standard tool range. Improved Flipcut deliveries for selected sizes. We have found it difficult to commit to short delivery times when manufacturing Flipcut from blank or semi-finished stock. In an effort to improve deliveries, we have developed this stock program for selected sizes. Other sizes, manufactured from blanks, will be delivered in three to four weeks; specials will be delivered as quoted.

New Flipcut pricing supplement

A supplemental price sheet (no. 078A) for the entire Flipcut product offering is enclosed. Please note that Flipcut prices, including prices for the stocked sizes, have NOT been adjusted. However, in the new version of the pricing we have clarified some past confusion over whether or not “arbor only” includes hardware; arbor prices are shown in the new supplement with and without hardware. The new supplement also includes prices for complete tools, whereas formerly arbors and cutters were priced separately. The new pricing supplement should therefore supersede the pricing shown in our full Price List no. 078.

Bulk shipments of new literature to sales agents

A starter supply of the new Flipcut Stock Program brochure and of the new Flipcut pricing supplement have been forwarded to Cogsdill sales agents and to authorized branch offices. (We are assuming that you already have a bulk supply of the full Flipcut catalog on hand; if not, contact Marketing Services.)

Encourage your customers to utilize the new stock program

Please encourage your existing Flipcut customers to buy stocked tools wherever possible. Flipcut is predominately used for clearance-bore applications. So your customers currently using a size outside of the stock program parameters may be able to convert to a stocked size and take advantage of the faster delivery. Please contact your regional sales manager, or Customer Service Manager Chuck Kannisto, if you have questions or comments about the new program. Contact Marketing Services Supervisor Wendy Blair for additional copies of the new Flipcut Stock Program brochure and pricing supplement.

We hope the new stock program will help us serve you and your Flipcut customers more effectively!
